Intention Setting 101 (setting your days up for peace & calm).

Ever wonder what the difference between setting an intention and saying an affirmation is?

Intention is a mental state that represents a commitment to carrying out an action, or actions, in the future. Whereas, an affirmation is a declaration that something is true, something you say to yourself to reprogramme the mind.

“Setting daily intentions is a powerful practice. They allow us to reflect on our day to day life, and create new habits that will serve our purpose. Our thoughts and actions direct us towards creating our reality” ~@minimalismmadesimple

So, if you are easily distracted, (like me, lol), and have tons of ideas running through your head on a daily basis…setting intentions is extremely effective. Instead of moving through your days passively, you become more of an active, mindful participant.

Some benefits of daily intention setting, (from my own experience):

  • They provide a bit of accountability (especially when you write them/it each morning).

  • You are being proactive rather than passive without purpose.

  • You are purposely choosing how you want to live your life.

  • They help you become more present, (one of my favourite phrases to help get me through hard days: “be here now”.

  • You are more mindful.

  • They lay a solid foundation of how you want to feel.

I think the best thing about setting daily intentions is that it is simple and free, (two of my favourite things)!

To help get you started, I created a special Holiday Intention Setting booklet, for free. Download the pdf here and use it to help keep you calm and stress free for the rest of the holiday season.

So, now that you’ve downloaded your guide, when it’s time to start, here are some tips for actually setting your intention(s):

  1. Make sure the space around you is calm and relaxing.

  2. Sit quietly, in silence, (or relaxing music), take a deep breath in and exhale. Do a little scan of your body and relax, (especially in your shoulders and jar).

  3. Decide what you really, really want and how you want to FEEL.

  4. Set your intention. Be clear and concise.

  5. Aim for short term, (day to day).

  6. Keep it simple.

  7. Make sure your intentions are positive. Eg: “I will” as opposed to “I won’t”.

  8. Eliminate any limiting beliefs.

  9. Detach from the outcome.

  10. Allow the Universe to get to work. Just “let it go”.

I hope this helps you get on track as we wrap up 2022 and head into 2023 with clarity, calm and confidence. Cheers to you and Merry Christmas.
