Cleaning Recipes & Resources
Everything you need for a green, non-toxic, vibrant, healthy home.
Today, reducing our chemical (I’m talking mostly synthetic) load on our bodies, as well as in our environment is more important than ever.
I also understand as a busy person, the last thing you want to do is make your own cleaning products!
Confession: When it comes to the deep, scummy, heavy duty cleans, especially for showers, I cheat and buy the heavy duty cleaners.
But, the best thing you can do is try and balance the cheating off with the simple diy recipes.
I didn’t create this page so that I could share with you all the dangerous, unhealthy, toxic reasons you should ditch all the store bought cleaners…if you’re reading this now, pretty sure you know that there’s some dangerous stuff on the grocery store shelves.
I do, however, want to share 8 reasons to start making your own cleaning essentials:
You’ll save money.
You’ll save time.
Knowing exactly what’s in your daily cleaning/home products is quite empowering.
Re-using and upcycling and cutting back on single use plastics is more important than ever, (plus glass is pretty).
You’ll experience therapeutic benefits of the essential oils, while cleaning, (rather than poisoning yourself slowly with toxic fragrance).
You can swap the aromas of your main cleaners and sprays as the seasons change.
You’ll be cutting back on the toxic, synthetic chemical load on your immune system.
Kids and teenagers and young adults really do love essential oils. The earlier you show them how easy it is to make simple home products, the greater the probability they’ll use these techniques when they go out on their own and pass it down to their own children.
On the following page, you’ll find:

Splash of plain, plant based dish soap
distilled, previously boiled or filtered water
30 drops of essential oils

Spring: 10 drops lemon, 10 drops lemongrass and 10 drops wild orange.
Summer: 10 drops grapefruit, 10 drops spearmint and 10 drops peppermint.
Winter: 10 drops Siberian Fir and 20 drops Wild Orange.
Heavy duty: 20 drops tea tree and 10 drops lemongrass.

Cleansing the stinky foods: 30 drops doTERRA Abode™
Down & Dirty Cleaning Paste (gentle and effective for stainless steel sinks and glass stove tops):
All you’ll need is:
a small bowl
1 cup baking soda
15 drops lemon essential oil
water
soft cloth or scrub brush
Mix well in the bowl until you add enough water to get a smooth paste. Add enough to your surface that it covers and rub in well with your brush or cloth. Lemon has antibacterial, antiviral, anti-fungal, and astringent properties, and so due to its purifying properties it is often used as an effective ingredient in kitchen cleaners.
#momtip: Keep a mason jar with baking soda and lemon essential oil, preblended, with a top with openings under each of your sinks, (kitchen, bathrooms, laundry room). When you notice your sink is getting a little dirty or grungy, sprinkle your sink, add a touch of water from the tap and scrub with a cloth or brush (I keep one of those under each of my sinks too).
Additional oils to add to your soft scrub:
Anti-fungal and cleansing: tea tree and lemongrass
Sweet, minty and fresh: peppermint, wild orange and lemon
Detoxifying: doTERRA Abode™
Herby, odor eliminating and sweet: lemon, basil and wild orange
Germ busting: bergamot, lavender, cinnamon, lemon and citronella

Trash Can Deodorizer Tabs
You will need:
2 cups baking soda
30-40 drops of essential oil(s)
6-8 Tbsp water
silicone mold
airtight container
To make, combine the baking soda and essential oils. Slowly add the water, 1 tbsp at a time and mix well after each addition.
It is ready when the mixture feels like damp sand and it keeps its shape. Firmly pack the mixture into the silicone mold, and let dry for at least 24 hours. When solidified, carefully pop the tabs out of the molds. Store the tabs in an airtight container. To use, place one or two tabs at the bottom of the trash as needed.
Recommended essential oils for your tabs:
Lemon: kitchen garbage cans
Lavender: diapers cans
Spearmint: bathrooms
Rosemary: office garbage cans
Warm & Woodsy Hardwood Furniture Polish
Ingredients:
1/2 oz (14 grams) beeswax (use a food scale to measure)
2 oz (60 ml) jojoba
10 drops cedarwood or arborvitae
You will also need:
Small pot.
Small glass Pyrex with the handle (about a 2 cup size).
Stir stick.
2 oz glass jar (the tine mason jars work well).
Directions:
Use a 4 oz (120 ml) glass jar for this blend.
Set up a small glass Pyrex bowl in a larger pot with 1-1.5 inches of water in the pot.
First add the beeswax and melt fully.
Add the jojoba, and let them blend and melt fully together.
Remove the Pyrex from the pot and wipe it down fully (this prevents any water from the condensation from dripping into your polish).
After the beeswax and jojoba cool a tiny bit, add your essential oil. Stir in well and then pour into your glass jar. Be sure to put the lid on right away so you keep the oil from dissipating.
Use a small amount on a soft cloth, rub into you hardwood and then wipe off the excess.
